Over-the-counter (OTC) securities are securities that are traded via broker-dealer networks as opposed to a centralized exchange since they are not listed on any major exchange. Some common types of OTC securities include Bonds, ADRs, ETFs, Foreign Currency, Cryptocurrency asset classes and selected smaller companies that do not meet the requirements to be listed on a formal exchange.
